Exploring Chicago

Monday is going to be reeeallly busy for my office because we have student athletes moving back on campus here at TIU.  How crazy is that?  I can't believe that the fall is almost here!

Thankfully this weekend was a great mix of busy and relaxing- mixed with hanging out with friends, finishing some video editing on a project that we have due for our class next weekend, and getting to have lunch with some family in Bucktown.  Bucktown is SO cute.  Dan and I have always wanted to go there and we had such a blast walking around downtown, catching up with his aunt and uncle (his cousin is looking at college's out here!) and enjoying some down time.

Here are some pictures I took on my phone (with Mytubo- a new app that is like instagram but it is for Androids.  I love it.)

The restaurant we almost went to- heard it got good reviews but Jane looked cuter :)

How cute is this set up?!  This is a restaurant- it felt like a home!

mmmm Mimosa

This beautiful church right around the corner

Chicago homes are SO stinkin' cute.  If only they didn't cost 1.7 million dollars *sigh*

The back yard of the place that Dan's family was staying- their house was incredibly.  A funeral home turned house- they slept in the basement.. a little creepy!

Sitting Still

"Multitasking has become the norm.  When was the last time you had an uninterrupted conversation with anyone?  No phones, text messages, or to-do lists running through your mind.  It's so rare nowadays to be able to look someone in the eye without interruption or distraction . . . In my quest to accomplish much, I've lost the art of focusing on one thing or one person.  This in turn has affected my prayer life, as I'm sure it has affected yours.  I find it harder to simply be with God, to focus only on Him while spending intentional time with Him.... Our lack of intimacy often is due to our refusal to unplug and shut off communication from all others so we can be alone with him."

 - Forgotten God, Francis Chan

I was definitely reading that exact paragraph while multitasking between doing my quiet time and uploading pictures to Facebook.  Yep, that was convicting.
Hope you have a relaxing weekend :)

Playing Catch Up

Since we were gone for a couple days and didn't have access to internet (I had used 95% of my data plan with 5 days left in the month!  I will think twice before using my phone as a GPS device driving to West Lafayette).  Anyway, while it was good to be away, there have been some fun things I have enjoyed reading lately so I wanted to share them with you.

Rightfully so, this mom posts pictures almost everyday of her adorable little girl.  And she seriously is one of the most adorable babies I have ever seen. I love that I can enjoy her cuteness but not have to change her diaper.

Recently Campus Crusade for Christ has had a name change and it has caused a LOT of controversy.  I thought John Piper wrote a great post about it, and obviously, because CCC holds a special place in my heart, I wanted to share it with you.

I have officially jumped on the Adele bandwagon.  Yes, I know, I'm rather late.  But K Love keeps me in a music bubble, okay?  This song in particular has been on repeat for me at work.

I adore this skirt.  Most likely I'll buy it on sale- in the fall- and then it will be out of style by next summer, when I can wear it. *sigh*

Recently I have been challenged by Courtney to evaluate what role media plays in my life.  Since Dan and I got rid of cable (and the storm have taken out ALL of our channels.. even the basic ones) I tend to think that I'm ok in the "time waster" department, but the reality is that blogging/ social media stuff can take up a lot of my time.  She has been posting  weekly posts about the media and how we can make sure it doesn't interfere with our walk with the Lord.

Lakehouse Part Dos

Overwhelmed yet by the pictures?  I sure hope not.  Here comes round 2.  And then I'll be done :)

Remember the biscuits and gravy competition?  Wellll, Brian was the winner!  Although it was a shut out (which doesn't show the reality of how close it was! lol) Adam was a good sport.
Brian got up on the first try!
Karissa and I waiting our turn for cornhole
Bond.  I love this dog.  I miss him :(
Girls hanging out!

Dan could have been on these jet skis for days!!
My sad attempt at jet skiing.  Struggs.  It was much more difficult than I thought lol  I couldn't even get the skis straight up in the water
And then my life jacket was too big.
One of my first failed attempts
The closest I got to getting up!
Jenna made it look SO easy.
This grandma totally showed me up
Words can't express how much I love this picture

One more pic of Jeff!

The end.  That was our weekend.  Thankfully, I think Dan and I have almost fully recovered from the lack of sleep and are gearing up for some summer classes next week!

Lakehouse Wkd ... I'm pretty sure this is part 1

This sorting through 400 pictures process is going to take MUCH longer than I thought.  I "narrowed it down" to 50 pictures I wanted to post last night.  Mix that with a slow internet and the uploading process was taking fooorever.  So, here are the ones that uploaded last night.  I know I will have a couple more... I'll post those tomorrow.  Thank you for your patience :)
We had SUCH a blast tubing.  It was SO fun!
We did it!  Our goal was to get all 6 of us on one tube!

The guys turn!

Success!

Hanging on for dear life
Dan got up water skiing!  Such a proud moment!
There definitely was a corn hole tournament
Luke and Karissa were the champs
Night swim on the boat
There definitely was a biscuits and gravy cook off

The votes are in... and you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see who won... I know you'll be on the edge of your seat
At Jeff's game!  All the pitchers in the dugout.
Jeff on the mound!!  Yep, he's totally rockin' a beard.  Brian Wilson style.

Still recovering

This weekend was SUCH a whirlwind of events for us.  One one hand, we haven't laughed so hard in a long time, but on another hand, Dan and I are exhauuuussstteed.  And sore.  Oh so incredibly sore.  I'm beginning to wonder if I felt this sore after the marathon.

We spent the weekend at Luke and Brittany's lake house with their friends from med school and spent the days jet skiing/ tubing/ water skiing (or attempting to) and the nights talking and taking late night swims on their boat.  The saying for the weekend was "Conditions were perfect."  If you're unfamiliar with where that's from, watch this hilarious video.

From there, we drove straight to watch Dan's brother, Jeff, pitch an awesome game against the Joliet Slammers (he's on the Traverse City Beach Bums) and got in around 1am last night.  Can we say sleep deprived?  On top of that, water sports + continuous shutter mode on camera = I have over 400 pictures to look through.  Definitely worth it, though.

On that note, I'll leave you with this video.  As if the other video I posted wasn't PG -13 rated enough, this one may top it.  If you avoid the inappropriate language around the last chorus, you'll be ok.  It so perfectly describes the experience Dan and I had during our one and ONLY visit to Whole Foods that I had to post it.  Happy Monday :)
