A New Day

"For Christians the beginning of the day should not be burdened and oppressed with besetting concerns for the day’s work. At the threshold of the new day stands the Lord who made it. All the darkness and distraction of the dreams of night retreat before the clear light of Jesus Christ and his wakening Word. All unrest, all impurity, all care and anxiety flee before him. Therefore, at the beginning of the day let all distraction and empty talk be silenced and let the first thought and the first word belong to him to whom our whole life belongs. “Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”

-Bonhoeffer, Life Together

I feel like I need to read this every. single. morning.  I can't tell you how quickly the day can slip by and before I know it I haven't spent any time in the Word or even thinking about God.  It's such a tragedy when I go through the day in my own strength and time and time again I find myself tired, exhausted, and wondering what the point of it all was as I spent my time changing diapers, cleaning toilets, and doing laundry (just a fun glimpse into my yesterday :).  Thankfully, everything I do can be done to give God glory, but that requires a change in my mindset and a change in my pace.  That change will only come if I pause first thing in the morning and remember my Creator and purpose.  This is just a small glimpse into something God has been teaching me this past month- and while it may seem simple, it's amazing how many needs a little newborn can have :)

Here's another good convicting post about getting in the Word first thing.

Jake's One Month Partaaay

{10lbs 3oz}

And by party I mean exciting photo shoot he got to have with mom.  Maybe I'll let him stay up a little bit longer before he naps later.. big things could happen around here to celebrate.. watch out.

I cannot believe it has been one month.  A month ago Dan and I were reluctantly heading to the hospital and it's crazy to think that now he has been apart of our family for a whole month!  It's hard to remember what life was like without him here!  And, if how fast this month went is any indication of how quickly he is going to grow up, I seriously am going to be teaching him how to drive next week.

Here are some fun things that I am going to remember about how Jake is at one month:
  • You constantly keep me on my toes and are throwing my previous "schedule oriented" and "check list" life out the window.  Some days you will sleep for 2 hours and others only a half an hour.  I am quickly learning that life with you is going to be pretty unexpected- I'm already bracing myself.
  • You are getting squirmy.  Which at times is fun and at times makes me sad because I like to cuddle and you push me away.  It's ok, you're already showing signs of independence.
  • You look like a turtle when we do tummy time and it's so stinkin' cute.
  • I feel like when you look at me you are actually *looking* at me and not spacing out by staring at the wall behind me or a bright light (even though you still do that sometimes).
  • I didn't know such loud burps could come out of such a tiny body.
  • When you poop it is an all out explosion.  Lord help me when we introduce solids into your diet.
  • I cannot wait until you smile- the small glimpses I get when you are in a milk coma seriously melt my heart.
  • I've realized you like listening to waves on the lamb that grandma and grandpa got you- I am taking that as an indication that you want to go on a vacation soon or live by the ocean, and mom and dad are ok with both of those things.
  • You took down your first bottle like a champ! We were so excited!
  • You have so many different expressions:
    • "Terrified" look (made when you hear loud noises or bright lights)
    • "I hate everyone" look (this one comes out in your car seat)
    • Confused look (you  make this often)
    • Staring off look
    • Milk Coma look
    • Blue steel look
    • I'm pooping look
We're so excited to continue to watch you grow up!  We're so thankful for you :)

I took "real" pictures with our camera... but this is easier to put up for now..

Starting to cry...

Having fun with my phone in hopes the crying would stop...

Indy

This past weekend we took our first road trip with Jake to Indianapolis!  One of our friends from college, Matt, and his wife, Laura, just had their sweet baby, Owen, a couple weeks before Jake was born.  They were in town from Florida so we knew when they would be only 3 hours away that we needed to head down to see them!

Saturday Jake decided to celebrated his 3 week birthday by giving us no sleep lol  He did awesome on the drive down and back, however he must have a 6th sense that tells him when he isn't at home because he was up every 2 hours on the dot, giving Dan and I only about an hour of sleep at a time.  And then the second we got back on Sunday night, he was totally fine.  However, for a 3 week old he did really good- we were very proud of him :)

Here are some pictures of our trip!

Jake's first swim lesson.

You can tell he enjoyed it thoroughly :)  Dan will have to wait a couple weeks to teach him the breast stroke.

Brittany's due August 1st!  Can't wait to meet their little girl!

The dads :)  I love how Jake and Owen are posing together lol

All of us!

We had to compare sizes.  Even though Owen is only 11 pounds (and we're estimating Jake is around 8- can you see him still swimming in his onesie?! Lol) Owen looked so much bigger than him!

They're basically bff.

Jake was getting bored lol

All 8 of the guys :) And yes Luke is in his boxers.

Father's Day Post.. is this too late?

For some reason I had this delirous thought that I would have more time to blog when I was done with school and was a stay at home mom.  I have no idea where that thought came from.  Here I am with a 3 week old and still struggling to get back in the "blogging routine."  I wish I could tell you that I am finally getting the hang of all of this and will be back to posting at a "normal" rate, however I have a feeling this sporadic posting is going to become the new normal.  I definitely have a profound respect for bloggers that have kids- I don't know how you can find time to do it!  Hence me getting to this post 3 days late.

Sunday was a pretty big deal in the Cinadr household as we celebrated Dan's FIRST Father's Day.  It's crazy for me to think that this amazingly good looking guy that I had a crush on junior year of high school is now a father- and it couldn't be sweeter watching him in that role.

A friend/ father on facebook mentioned this on Sunday: "Happy Father's Day! May we all live in such a way before our children so that they will not find it difficult to understand God as their Father as they continue or begin to follow Him. (Ephesians 1.3)"

I read that and felt so blessed because I truly believe that I have a husband who is going to help our son see Christ more.  Will he do it perfectly?  Of course not, and neither I nor anyone else expects him to because he's not perfect.  However Dan has this great ability to ask for forgiveness at the first sense of wrong doing, and that action alone is going to speak volumes in regards to the gospel in our family.  He also has this wonderful combination of grace and truth- he has such a compassionate heart but doesn't shy away from the truth in the Bible.  I can't begin to share how excited I am to partner with this man to raise our son :) He's pretty great.

And, I obviously can't talk about Father's Day without giving a shout out to my own dad :)  Some of my favorite times with my dad is when he shared with me what God was teaching him- that fact that I remember these times so vividly really shows the power that a father's wisdom can have on his kids.  I'll never forget sitting with him in the kitchen as he shared Micah 6:8 with me:

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

To this day I will always remember that verse and can't read it without thinking about my dad and the thoughts he shared with me regarding it.  Thanks for speaking the gospel to us, dad- don't stop :)  I love hearing what the Lord is teaching you.

First Father's Day shot!  He had on a "I Love Dad" shirt :)

Jake's big day

Dan and I went back and forth for a while deciding what we wanted to do regarding pictures of the pregnancy/ our baby.  We knew we wanted to have professional pictures taken, but weren't sure when to do them.  I thought about doing pregnancy pictures, but after a while I realized I probably wouldn't need 60 pictures of me posing pregnant 5 years from now.  As cute as they are (and there are some adorable ones on Pinterest!) we thought our money would go further if we held off until our little one arrived. (However if we had an unlimited budget we would have totally gotten the pregnancy pics :)

Then came the decision of when to get pictures of our new baby.  Committing to getting newborn pictures could get risky.. what if we had a pretty weird looking baby?  I mean, a lot of babies look kind of "alienish" when they are born and I don't want to spend money to get pictures of our awkward looking kid when we should have waited 3 or 6 months.  However, after much decision making, we decided to take the risk and go with scheduling the newborn shoot.  Last year for Christmas we got my parents a "family photo session" where my siblings and I are going to head to Ohio to get some shots of all of us sometime in late summer/ fall.  So, we decided if we wanted more pictures then, we could get some additional shots of our little family when Jake is older (which we still may do- we'll see :)

So, here are some of our favorite pictures of Jacob!  We loved how they turned out and even though he wasn't cooperating too much (a little cranky and not that sleepy) the photographer did a great job getting some good shots of him!  I'm excited to put these up in his nursery when he has one!
