It's Christmas time in the (NY) City

This past weekend we took a {somewhat} spontaneous trip to New York City.  We knew we wanted to go around Christmas time we just didn't know what weekend.  So, one night (Wed night that is) we started talking about how fun it would be to go this upcoming weekend so I found a groupon deal for a hotel, looked up train schedules, talked to friends about what to do and what not to do, and Saturday morning we headed toward the city!

New York was everything we imagined it would be this time of the year: tons of people. Christmas decorations. lights. cold temperatures. lots of red Starbucks cups. yellow cabs all over. seriously you name it, it was there.  We had a lot of things on our list to do, but we needed to be realistic since we technically only had 24 hours in the city, and a one and a half year old.  With all that in mind we hit up Toys R Us, M&M World, FAO Schwarz, Macy's, the Today Show, parts of Times Square and Central Park.  There is so much to do we could have been there for weeks, however that would be exhausting :)

It was a quick, fun trip and we had a blast getting a feel for the city.  It definitely is different than Chicago (I thought we might be able to actually drive into the city since we've done it numerous times in Chicago- but we never would have made it out alive in NY) but also had a lot of similarities with the shows, restaurants, and shopping.  I personally can't wait to go back in the summer and spend more time outside and not rushing inside to get warm every 45 minutes :)

Waiting to eat some lunch.  Jake was MUCH happier after we napped inside a warm building.. I'm not even sure the name of it but when your child is crying and tired you find the first warm building with coffee. available and head in

Such a fun place to eat!  All the waiters loved singing to Jake :)
untitled-53
Jake would not put this back.  So it is now currently laying on the rug in front of me.  We'll just consider it an early Christmas gift :)
untitled-55
M&M world was HUGE
untitled-59
Jake was terrified of every person in costume. Elmo. Geoffrey the Giraffe.  and obviously this M&M man.  He refused to have his back to him for fear that he would be taken.

I had such a fun weekend with these guys :)  As you can see this was our last picture.. Jake was ready to get on the train and head home!
