Home update

You probably thought we gave up on our home right?  Well, don't you worry.  We didn't.  I guess I should warn you we haven't done that much... really paint and some new lights can go a long way.  But, we officially (aside from the doors) finished our entry way and painting our main area.

When we moved in I was REALLY excited to change the entryway.  I saw a lot of potential and it is the first thing you see when you walk in, so I wanted it to look good.  Right now, I'm into gray (I guess really.. who isn't these days?) so I found a bluish gray for the entryway and then went with a "greige" for our main sitting area.  I LOVE the colors and the way it turned out.  We got rid of the tan and the dark red and it really opened everything up.  Here are some small changes we made :)

Jake's First Birthday

So we officially are parents of a one year old.  Crazy.  Life a year ago today was so incredibly different.  It's amazing how we spend 9 months preparing to bring another life into this world.. and yet the second we got home with Jake I felt unprepared in SO many ways.  Yet here we are a year later and we survived.  We survived the sleepless nights, figuring out nursing, when/ how to introduce solid foods, crawling, getting on a sleeping schedule, traveling with a baby, still maintaining (somewhat :) of a social life with a baby, and so many other transitions.  And in this past year more than ever have I realized what an incredible blessing our baby boy is.  Before the miscarriage I spent a lot of time worrying if I was doing things right as a mom.  Now I realize what a privilege it is to be Jake's mom and hope to cherish more of the moments rather than worry.

We can't thank our friends and family enough for all the support they've given us this past year.  I know we definitely could have survived without them.. but it would have been much harder and less fun :) They loved our little guy like he was their own and we can't thank them enough for that.  Jake is one loved little man in more ways than I think he'll ever understand.  And his first birthday was a testimony to that :)

I went with an "vintage airplane" theme.  Yes I stole the idea from the internet.  You don't think I can actually come up with these ideas on my own, right?

Tough Mudder

Today Dan ran with 5 guys in our Bible Study the race known as the "Tough Mudder."   For those of you who haven't heard of it, you run between 10 to 12 miles while doing approximately 20 obstacles in between.  Yes we paid big bucks for him to do this :)  However, I am glad he did it.  It was fun watching them tackle obstacles like swimming through an ice cold Arctic pool and climbing up a huge wall.  And, Jake really was a trooper.  I'm not sure I would bring an almost one year old to an all day event like this again (and after driving, taking the shuttle, watching the race, cleaning off, taking the shuttle, and driving back home.. it turned out to be an ALL day event!) in 80 degree weather.. in a large muddy field... however we all survived and so did the guys :)

In between all the craziness, I was able to get a couple shots.  I'm excited to see the other pictures the wives got- they were able to get closer to the action than I was!  And, this race reminded me what a stud my husband is :)

And tomorrow is Monday.  Where in the world did the weekend go?
